John 5

Three questions that pop out as I read the text from John 5:
1) The invalid believes the pool will heal him.  He wasn't the only one.  Where, outside of Jesus, do we go to find healing?

2) Why does Jesus ask the man if he wants to be healed?  Isn't the answer obvious?

3) What does this passage say about the purpose of healing?

  1. The man is so intent on looking at the pool (tradition) that he does not see Jesus. Jesus spoke to him with such an obvious question to get his attention off of the pool and on the Jesus. I think another thing is to note there were many at the pool and none took their eyes off of the pool when Jesus told the man to get up and take up his bed. This man had been there for a long time and was known to be very sick but everyone was so intent on their own condition that they missed the miracle. We all need to be reminded each day to look at Jesus for the help to get through each day. If we let Him He will give victories over sin for us each day.
